At Marketing Gum we provide a tool that Facebook Page owners can use to create contests for their fans.
Whether it’s a contest for your Facebook Business Page, or a page for a charity, you can publish contests, newsletters and much more to your page, to increase engagement with your fans and encourage sharing amongst friends.
Creating a Facebook contest need not be difficult, expensive or time consuming.
In this article, our single aim is to show you how quickly you can get a professional contest published to your Facebook page with no particular expertise (apart from how to turn the computer on and access the internet!).
Contests should play a central role in your social media strategy and we’ll show you how to get one up and running on your Facebook page within 5-10 minutes.
I will walk you step by step through the process of signing up for Marketing Gum, creating a contest and publishing it to your Facebook Page. Are you ready? Lets get started!
Step 1 – Create your account
You can sign-up for your Marketing Gum account at: http://member.marketinggum.com/register
It’s up to you whether you fill in the form or you click the ‘Sign in with Facebook’ button. If you prefer speed & convenience, use the Facebook Sign In – then you don’t have to input anything at all.
Step 2 – Have a quick read through our intro screen
When you’ve clicked the register button, your account will be created and you’ll be inside Marketing Gum. On the first page that loads, a message will pop-up which is just a quick introduction to Marketing Gum.
Have a quick read of each page of the introduction. Once you’ve gone through each page, there will be a big green button inviting you to ‘create your first campaign’. Click that to commence.
Step 3 – Choose what type of campaign you’d like to create
For the purpose of this ‘how-to’, we’re going to create a ‘sweepstake’ contest. Click on the ‘create’ button and we’ll start creating your sweepstake.
Step 4 – Give it a name & define whether the contest should be shareable on Facebook
Give your new campaign a name you’ll remember, this is for your own reference purposes, then select whether you’d like to give people the opportunity to ‘share’ the promotion, once they’ve entered.
This is a fantastic way of making your Facebook contest go viral. Entrants share the competition with their friends on Facebook, who share with their friends and the cycle continues. More on how to benefit from this the greatest, later in the tutorial.
Once you’ve defined your setup, click the big green ‘setup’ button.
Step 5 – Watch our quick visual tutorial of the campaign editor
As shown below, a message will pop-up, inviting you to start the tutorial. This will give you a good understanding of how to edit the different parts of a campaign.
Step 6 – Edit the content
Now that you’ve been through the quick tutorial, you’ll have a good idea of how to edit the page you currently see. To edit the header, simply hover over it and click the ‘edit’ button as shown in the image below…
Once you’ve clicked ‘edit’, you’ll see the following screen, which allows you to edit the content…
This is the best opportunity to let people know what they could win by entering your contest.
After typing what text you’d like to appear, click the ‘Save’ button. That’ll save the widgets content.
You can add all different types of widgets to the page, including: headlines, text blocks, buttons, images, galleries and videos.
Step 7 – Editing the ‘share’ page
After someone enters your contest, they’re then presented with another page, which prompts them to ‘share’ this contest on Facebook. You can add widgets to this page (more text, images etc).
Your ultimate aim is to encourage people to share this contest on their Facebook page. There are a number of ways you can do this, but giving entrants an incentive such as ‘Get an extra entry in the draw’, is one we know works extremely well.
When you’ve published your competition, you’ll be able to see who shared the contest on Facebook and you’ll be able to use our tool to automatically pick a winner.
You can edit the exact message that’s shared on Facebook, by hovering over the share button and clicking ‘edit’.
Step 8 – Add content to your ‘Thank You’ page
After an entrant has shared the contest on Facebook, they’re presented with one last page, the ‘thank you’ page.
This is an opportunity for you to thank the entrant for entering and sharing. It’s also an opportunity for you to point the entrant to any specific links you’d like to, such as your website.
Step 9 – Confirm & Publish to Facebook, we’re all done!
The last step in the process is to publish your campaign. On the initial ‘Confirm & Publish’ page, you’ll be presented with the following screen:
Simply click ‘Publish’ – this will set the campaigns status as published – it won’t publish it to Facebook just yet – you have the opportunity to do that on the next page, which will look as follows:
As shown in the screenshot above, you’re given the option of what Facebook page you’d like to publish the contest to. You’re also given a direct link so you can share it directly with people, or in email campaigns for example.
Step 10 – Track your results
Once your campaign is published, you’ll be able to track your results with Marketing Gum as shown in the screenshot below…
Now that wasn’t so hard was it? With Marketing Gum, you really don’t need any expertise to get a contest or promotion up and running. Whether you’re using Facebook for business or not, contests are a great way of getting more Facebook likes to your Facebook fan page.
